Georgia Health Informatics Degree Programs

Georgia’s health informatics options are mostly online and inexpensive. University System of Georgia schools charge one eTuition rate to students in every state, so Georgia State’s online MS costs about $16,700 and Columbus State’s nursing informatics MSN about $14,700 for anyone. No Georgia health informatics master’s is CAHIIM-accredited; Augusta University’s HIM bachelor’s and nine associate degrees are.

Georgia also has three nursing informatics MSNs, a 14-month online MS at Morehouse School of Medicine, and new data science degrees at Emory.

Which Georgia Program May Fit You Best?

For a Low-Cost Online Master’s

Georgia State‘s online MS costs about $16,700 for any student and accepts bachelor’s holders from any field. IT professionals can consider Middle Georgia State‘s MSIT, about $8,100, which requires a technical background.

For a Structured Cohort or Business Focus

Morehouse School of Medicine runs a 14-month online lockstep cohort with a capstone practicum. Mercer requires a year of clinical or IT experience and meets live online. Kennesaw State meets Friday evenings and bundles textbooks and certification costs into its price.

For Data Science

Emory offers machine-learning-heavy biomedical informatics study, a campus MSPH in Data Science, and an online analytics MS launching in spring 2027.

For Nurses

Columbus State‘s MSN is fully asynchronous with technical courses in data mining and decision support. Georgia Southwestern adds more practicum time with a local preceptor. South University offers an RN-to-MSN route for ADN nurses.

For the RHIA or RHIT

Augusta University is Georgia’s public route to the RHIA, fully online at $306 per credit for transfer students. For the RHIT, most of the nine accredited associate programs allow online coursework, and Lanier Tech publishes certification pass rates of 100% in three of the last four years.

Programs in Transition

  • Gordon State College: its BS in Health Information Management is deactivated and in teach-out.
  • Georgia Northwestern Technical College: its HIM technology associate degree is not accepting new students.
  • College of Coastal Georgia: its BS in Health Informatics no longer appears in the current catalog.
  • Kennesaw State University: CAHIIM lists a Digital Health Leader graduate certificate (accredited December 2024) that does not appear in KSU’s current catalog.

How to Compare Georgia Health Informatics Degrees

Use eTuition to Your Advantage

University System of Georgia online programs charge the same rate to out-of-state students, so Georgia State, Augusta, North Georgia, Columbus State, and Georgia Southwestern cost nonresidents no more than Georgians. Campus programs and Kennesaw State’s MS charge much more out of state.

Check Accreditation in CAHIIM’s Directory

Several Georgia college pages still show accreditation “through 2021” or “through 2022” when CAHIIM lists later review dates, and Morehouse School of Medicine’s MS is in candidacy, not yet accredited. CAHIIM’s directory is the reliable source.

Look Closely at Applied Experience

Most Georgia master’s programs end in a capstone rather than a practicum, and Georgia State’s capstone is optional. Students new to health care should plan for hands-on experience on their own.
