Florida offers four CAHIIM-accredited health informatics master’s programs, three CAHIIM-accredited HIM bachelor’s programs, ten accredited associate degrees in health information technology at state colleges, and three nursing informatics MSNs. Most of the master’s programs are fully online.
Pricing varies more than the formats do. USF and UCF charge one flat rate to every student, FIU publishes program totals, and UNF and UF follow standard state rates with large out-of-state premiums.

Florida State University offers a 12-credit graduate certificate through its School of Information, and the University of West Florida a 9-credit online one. UF also offers a PhD concentration in biomedical informatics.
Florida Nursing Informatics Programs
| School | Location | Program | Format | Estimated Tuition | Practicum Hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| St. Thomas University | Miami Gardens | MSN in Informatics, 36 credits; post-master’s certificate | Online (Florida and Georgia residents only) | $21,780 to $23,180, fees included | 180 |
| Nova Southeastern University | Fort Lauderdale | MSN in Nursing Informatics, 36 credits | Online | About $28,700, plus fees | 150 or 170 (page lists both) |

Master’s totals are our estimates from each school’s published rates; FIU’s are its published program totals. College rates come from the colleges or the Florida Department of Education’s 2025-26 fee report and include fees unless noted. Ultimate Medical Academy, a private online school in Tampa, also offers a CAHIIM-accredited associate degree in HIM. Confirm current costs and requirements with each school.
Which Florida Program May Fit You Best?
For an Accredited Online Master’s
USF and UCF each charge about $29,000 to every student, which favors out-of-state applicants; UCF’s MS requires a HIMSS certification exam attempt before graduation. Nova Southeastern adds a required practicum and three starts a year, and FIU runs a 17-month business-school cohort with one fall start.
For Lower In-State Cost
UNF‘s online MS costs a Florida resident about $17,300, and its 12-credit certificate uses four MS core courses. It is not CAHIIM-accredited and has no required practicum.
For Analytics, AI, or Research
FIU’s AI major adds machine learning courses, and USF offers a healthcare analytics concentration. UF‘s medical-school programs, all on campus in Gainesville, suit students headed for research or biomedical data science.
For Nurses
St. Thomas University can be finished in about a year but accepts only Florida and Georgia residents. Nova Southeastern‘s MSN includes advanced clinical courses, and Jacksonville University offers its four informatics courses as a 12-credit certificate for nurses who already hold a master’s.
For the RHIA
Three CAHIIM-accredited bachelor’s programs lead to the RHIA: UCF’s, mostly online for about $21,500 in-state; FAMU‘s campus program with two practice experiences and an internship; and Keiser‘s online program, taken one course at a time, at a much higher price.
For the RHIT
Most of the ten state college programs are online except for professional practice. Palm Beach State, Florida SouthWestern, and Santa Fe report 100% RHIT pass rates for recent cohorts, and FSCJ reports 100% for 2022 to 2025.
Programs in Transition
- Pensacola State College: CAHIIM lists its HIT associate degree as inactive since June 2025.
- Daytona State College and Indian River State College: their HIT associate degrees appear to have been discontinued.
- University of Florida: the MS and the older biomedical informatics certificate show conflicting admission status, with Fall 2027 deadlines listed as TBA.
- University of Miami: its catalog lists an online MS and certificate in health informatics, but the nursing school’s program pages do not, so their status is unconfirmed.
- Jacksonville University and Hodges University: JU’s MS in Health Informatics no longer appears on its tuition table, and Hodges University has closed.
How to Compare Florida Health Informatics Degrees
Check How Each School Prices Residency
Florida residents pay about $17,300 for UNF’s MS but about $29,000 at USF or UCF, whose flat rates ignore residency. Out-of-state students see the reverse: UNF costs about $38,200, while USF and UCF stay near $29,000.
Verify Accreditation in CAHIIM’s Directory
Several Florida college pages show outdated or mistyped accreditation dates, and UCF’s and NSU’s health informatics bachelor’s degrees are in candidacy, not yet accredited. CAHIIM’s directory is the reliable source.
Look for Applied Experience
NSU’s and UCF’s master’s degrees require a practicum or internship, while USF, UNF, and FIU make it optional. Students without health care experience should plan for an internship whether or not it is required.
