Which Minnesota Program May Fit You Best?

For an Accredited Online Master’s

St. Scholastica offers both an HIM master’s leading to the RHIA and a health informatics master’s at $700 per credit, with five application deadlines a year.

For Research or Clinical Informatics

The University of Minnesota‘s Institute for Health Informatics offers a professional master’s, a research MS, a PhD, and MD/MHI and PharmD/MHI options.

For the RHIA or RHIT

RHITs can finish a bachelor’s online at Rasmussen or St. Scholastica. Four Minnesota community and technical colleges hold CAHIIM accreditation for associate degrees leading to the RHIT.

For Registered Nurses

Walden offers course-based and self-paced informatics MSN tracks, including RN-to-MSN entry, and Capella offers its own online informatics MSN.

Programs in Transition

  • St. Catherine University: its online Master of Health Informatics is not admitting new students.
  • Rasmussen University: combined with American Public University System in August 2026; confirm program details as its site is updated.

How to Compare Minnesota Health Informatics Programs

Cost differences are large. St. Scholastica’s online master’s degrees cost about $28,000 to $29,400 for any student, while the University of Minnesota’s published part-time rates put its master’s near $60,000 for residents. Check whether you need the RHIA, which only the HIM programs provide.
