A management degree: 6 of the MMCi’s 15 required courses are business courses. Physicians, clinicians, and IT staff meet as one cohort on campus one weekend a month.
Indiana University Indianapolis

- Format: Online
Five courses with no practicum. Three electives from six let students lean toward management or toward technical systems such as natural language processing and decision support.
Ohio University
- Location: Athens, OH

Three required courses and 9 credits, open to any bachelor’s holder. The certificate can count toward Ohio University’s online Master of Integrated Health Studies.
Stanford University

A 12-month, full-time cohort with campus sessions every other Friday and Saturday. The 180-hour practicum can be a business plan with a financial model.
University of Maryland, Baltimore

The MS stacks the clinical informatics certificate with a UMBC data science certificate covering Python, machine learning, and big data platforms. No programming background is required.
University of Pennsylvania

- Format: Campus
Weekly in-person classes with required SQL and R coursework. The certificate is limited to Penn and CHOP affiliates and transfers into the MCI.

A required technical core of Python, clinical database design, and statistics, delivered remotely. Students arrange a 135- to 240-hour practicum with program help.

A faculty-chaired scholarly project or master’s thesis replaces the practicum. Applicants need a year of health care experience and a statistics course.
Vanderbilt University

A CAHIIM-accredited master’s with weekly Thursday evening sessions and no travel. The final nine months are a capstone run inside the student’s own employer.
Yale University

A mentored research degree: 18 of 35 credits are thesis research. Applicants secure a Yale mentor, a three-member committee, and a research plan before applying.
