MS Practicum and Capstone
- No practicum or capstone is required in the 2026-27 catalog.
- The department page lists an informatics practicum or internship elective that the catalog does not show.
Students without health care experience should ask whether the practicum elective is running, since the core gives no supervised workplace hours.
MS Admissions
Applicants need a bachelor’s in a clinical, computing, or business and health administration field, so the program is not open to every major.
- Bachelor’s in a clinical, CS or IT, or business or health administration field.
- Statistics prerequisite; medical terminology for applicants without a clinical degree.
- Résumé, letter of intent, two recommendations, $30 fee.
- No RN license or clinical experience required.

Why Choose This Health Informatics Program?
Suited to health administrators and clinicians who want informatics framed around management and finance.
Interprofessional design. Three colleges share the teaching, so the degree covers revenue management, population health, and strategy along with systems and analytics.
The trade-offs. The MS is not CAHIIM-accredited and has no required practicum. Out-of-state students pay more than twice the in-state total.
On-ramp. The 12-credit certificate uses four MS core courses, making it a lower-cost way to test the field.
Accreditation
UNF’s MS in Health Informatics is not CAHIIM-accredited and does not appear in CAHIIM’s directory. UNF makes no CAHIIM claim.
The University of North Florida is institutionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
A master’s in health informatics fits Track 1 of the AMIA Health Informatics Certification, which also requires informatics work experience. UNF says the degree prepares students for clinical informatics board certification; physicians qualify for that board only through an ACGME fellowship, not a master’s.
