Delaware has few health informatics options. No Delaware school currently offers a CAHIIM-accredited health information management (HIM) program, a health informatics master’s, or a nursing informatics master’s. Delaware Technical Community College’s accredited HIM associate degree is inactive and not accepting new students.
The current in-state option is Wilmington University’s online Health Information Technology Certificate. Delaware students looking for a degree typically study online or in a neighboring state.
Delaware Health Informatics Programs
| School | Program | Format | Estimated Tuition | Accreditation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wilmington University | Health Information Technology Certificate, 15 credits | Online | About $6,600 | Not CAHIIM; prepares for HIMSS CAHIMS |
| Strayer University (Wilmington campus location) | BS in Health Services Administration, HIM and Analytics concentration, 180 quarter credits | Online only | $1,555 per course (2025-26) | Not CAHIIM |
| University of Delaware | MS, PhD, and certificates in Bioinformatics Data Science | Campus; online certificate | $1,149 per credit (2026-27) | Not applicable |
Strayer is a multi-state university; its HIM and analytics concentration is delivered online only, not at its Wilmington location. The University of Delaware’s programs are bioinformatics, not health informatics. Confirm current costs and requirements with each school.
Options for Delaware Students
For a Short Credential
Wilmington University‘s five-course online certificate covers health care databases, systems analysis, and project management for about $6,600, and its credits can count toward the university’s BS in Health Sciences. It prepares students for the HIMSS CAHIMS exam, not the RHIT or RHIA.
For the RHIT or RHIA
With Delaware Tech’s program inactive, Delaware students need an out-of-state or online CAHIIM-accredited program. Several accredited HIM bachelor’s degrees are fully online at one rate for every state; see the bachelor’s directory and filter for CAHIIM and online.
For a Master’s Degree
No Delaware school offers a health informatics master’s. The master’s directory lists online programs, including CAHIIM-accredited options, that Delaware residents can complete from home.
For Bioinformatics and Research
The University of Delaware’s Bioinformatics Data Science programs, including a 31-credit MS and a funded PhD, suit students interested in genomics and computational biology rather than health IT or HIM.
Programs That Have Closed
Delaware Technical Community College: CAHIIM lists its HIM associate degree as inactive and not accepting new enrollments since March 2024, and it no longer appears in the college’s 2025-26 catalog, although an older program page remains online.
