InformaticsEducation.org helps students compare health informatics, health information management, nursing informatics, and clinical informatics programs. We do not rank schools. Instead, we verify each program from official sources and describe who it fits, what it costs, and what it requires, so you can compare programs against your own goals.
How We Evaluate Health Informatics Programs
Each school profile and directory entry records the same facts for every program:
- Tuition: the most recent published per-credit or flat rate, with its year, and an estimated total when credits and rates are both published.
- Credits and length: the credit total and the school’s stated time to finish.
- Format: fully online, mostly online with campus visits or live sessions, hybrid, or on campus.
- Applied experience: practicum or internship hours, capstone, or thesis requirements.
- Accreditation and certification: CAHIIM status, institutional accreditation, and whether the program leads to the RHIA or counts toward AMIA or ANCC certification.
- Admissions: degree, GPA, test, and experience requirements.
Sources of Information
- Each school’s program pages, academic catalog or bulletin, and published tuition and fee schedules.
- The Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) program directory.
- Certification bodies, including AHIMA, AMIA, and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
We state CAHIIM accreditation only when CAHIIM’s directory or the school’s own page confirms it.
When Sources Disagree
Schools sometimes publish conflicting figures, such as different credit totals or practicum hours on two pages. We report both and flag the conflict rather than choosing one. When a figure is not published, we say it is not clearly stated.
Keeping Information Current
We review programs on a rolling basis and note the tuition year with each rate. Programs that close or stop admitting students are removed from directories or listed as in transition on state pages. Programs change between reviews, so confirm details with each school before applying.
